The Shepherd’s Center Goals
Involve and sustain older adults who desire to live independently in the community.
Help strengthen ministries to older adults by building upon an interfaith coalition that encourages community collaboration.
Provide opportunities for older adults to use their experience, skills, values and gifts in significant roles within the community.
Enhance life satisfaction through the discovery of inner resources, as well as through life-long learning, caring relationships, creative expression and community service.
Encourage and experiment with new programs and services that will enhance the aging experience for both active and homebound older adults.
The Challenge
It took 1,000 years for the average life expectancy to increase 3 years. In the 20th century, it increased 30 years.
Two thirds of all people who have lived to be 65 years of age or older since the beginning of human history are currently living.
In 1900, the average number of years spent in retirement was 1.2. Today, it is 19.4.
If AARP were a nation, it would be the thirteenth largest nation on the planet!
